On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the Community Health Planning and Policy Development section invites papers, posters and sessions that address relevant planning and policy themes, along with this year’s APHA theme, "Water and Public Health." Of particular interest are papers related to the following:
  • Access to Clean Water: Planning and Policy Development
  • Assessing, Planning, Evaluating and Financing Community Health Programs
  • Balancing Equity, Effectiveness and Efficiency in Health System Reform

Abstracts are limited to 250 words or less and must include at least one learning objective. Referrals to web pages or URLS may not be used for abstracts. Any abstract requiring the use of film or video must be submitted to the Film and Technology Theater section, regardless of topic.

For any and all inquiries about your abstract, always refer to the abstract number assigned to you by the on-line system.

This section encourages students and those who have never presented at an APHA annual meeting, especially minorities, to become "new presenters" in 2009. Be sure to indicate "new presenter" or "student status" when you submit your abstract on the web page.

Continuing Education Accreditation
APHA values the ability to provide continuing education credit to physicians, nurses and health educators at its annual meeting. Please complete all required information when submitting an abstract so members can claim credit for attending your session. These credits are necessary for members to keep their licenses and credentials.

For a session to be eligible for Continuing Education Credit, each presenter must provide:
  1. An abstract free of trade and/or commercial product names

  2. At least one MEASURABLE objective (to understand or to learn are not measurable objectives)
  3. .
    Examples of Acceptable Measurable Action Words: Explain, Demonstrate, Analyze, Formulate, Discuss, Compare, Differentiate, Describe, Name, Assess, Evaluate, Identify, Design, Define or List.
  4. A signed Conflict of Interest form with a relevant qualification statement

Special Sessions in the Community Health Planning and Policy Development (CHPPD) Section
To propose a special CHPPD session, the session organizer must a) be a member of APHA, b) have selected CHPPD as a section choice, c) and follow all steps listed below.

First, contact Danielle Greene, Chair, CHPPD Program Planning Committee at dgreene@health.nyc.gov and Ijeoma Nwachuku, Co-Chair, at ijeoma.nwachuku@methodisthospital.org with the proposal for a special session.

If the session proposal is approved as appropriate for submission to this section, please do the following:
  1. Submit each abstract individually through the on-line system.

  2. Note the assigned abstract number for submission
  3. .
  4. E-mail Danielle Greene and Ijeoma Nwachuku with the title of the session, the abstract numbers for each abstract submission, the names of the presenters, three (3) measurable session learning objectives as described above, and a brief description of the session.

All abstract will be considered as individual submissions. Consideration for the abstracts as a proposed session will occur after the individual review of abstracts. CHPPD does NOT generally accept full sessions related to a single project. If some but not all of the abstracts are accepted, the accepted abstracts will be grouped together for placement in the same CHPPD session.

Special sessions and their component abstracts have the same deadline as individual abstracts submitted to the CHPPD section. There will be no extensions or alternate deadlines for proposed special sessions.
