Abstracts relating to data that have not been analyzed as of the abstract deadline should be submitted as proposals for a late breaker session. Instructions for Epidemiology Section late breaker sessions will appear on the APHA web site in June 2009.

Oral presentations at contributed sessions are generally 10-12 minutes in length. An additional 3-5 minutes will be available for discussion and questions from the audience. Presenters at poster sessions should display their work and be available to answer questions throughout the scheduled 60 minute poster session. Preferences for oral versus poster presentation will be considered, but the program committee will consider all abstracts for both oral and poster categories.

Students: All students who submit an abstract accepted for presentation at the annual meeting are eligible for student travel awards. You must signify when you submit your abstract that you are a student presenter to be considered for this cash award. Award winners will be notified prior to the annual meeting and will be required to present his/her abstract at the meeting.

Invited or Special Sessions:

The Epidemiology Section invites the submission of proposals for Invited or Special Sessions related to the theme of the Annual Meeting, "Water and Public Health". Sessions on emerging issues in epidemiologic methods, research and analysis or on the future of epidemiology would also be appropriate submissions.

Proposals: Proposals for Invited or Special Sessions (i.e. sessions with invited speakers) must be submitted by mail or email (no faxes, please) to the Program Planner. The proposal should be a brief (not more than two pages) overview including the title, purpose, relevance and importance of the proposed session, and the proposed invited speakers, their topics, and their affiliations. Include your full mailing address, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers.

Format: The proposal should include a detailed schedule with: proposed presider(s); specific topics with the presenters' full names underlined plus the full names of all authors (This should correspond to the abstract submitted online.); a time schedule within the session (begin the session at 0:00 hrs and end it at 1:30). We suggest that Invited or Special Sessions allow time for a discussant. The session proposal should include all author information for the organizer, presider and discussants, if any. A presentation at an Invited or Special Session may be up to 30 minutes in length.

Deadline: Invited or Special session proposals should be submitted to the Epidemiology Section Program Planner no later than February 28, 2009. Invited or Special session abstracts must be submitted starting March 16 through the deadline on April 24, 2009. A complete abstract for EACH proposed presentation must be submitted at the web site, with an indication of the Invited or Special session to which it belongs. An abstract submitted as part of an Invited or Special session should not be submitted as an individual contributed abstract.
