LATINO CAUCUS CALL FOR ABSTRACTS American Public Health Association 137th Annual Meeting & Expo Philadelphia, PA November 7-11, 2009 "Water and Public Health: the 21st Century Challenge." The Scientific Program Subcommittee of the APHA Latino Caucus invites students, educators, researchers, health professionals, and community members to submit their research, practice, and policy findings for dissemination at the annual conference. The theme of the 2009 conference is "Water and Public Health: the 21st Century Challenge.” Please submit scientific papers that address issues affecting Latinos especially as they relate to the theme of the conference. However, other papers that address the Health of Latinos will be accepted. The abstracts will be organized into one of the following: oral presentation, roundtable discussion, and poster session. Electronic submission is required (http://apha.confex.com/apha/137am/oasys.epl)by February 19, 2009.
If you are new to this process, please visit the Latino Caucus website in early January to view sample abstracts and instructions on how to build a set of objectives. If you are unsure of a theme, select the most appropriate. Also, please note that all abstracts are peer-reviewed and evaluated using the following criteria: • Clarity of presentation: statement of problem, relevance, methods, results, and conclusions; • Quality and completeness of reported findings; • Originality and implications of findings to research, practice, and/or policy We strongly encourage students to submit their abstracts, and to indicate their student status in the appropriate checkbox. APHA values the ability to provide continuing education credit to physicians, nurses and health educators at its annual meeting. Please complete all required information when submitting an abstract so members can claim credit for attending your session. These credits are necessary for members to keep their licenses and credentials. For a session to be eligible for Continuing Education Credit, each presenter must provide: 1) an abstract free of trade and/or commercial product names 2) at least one MEASURABLE objective (to understand or to learn are not measurable objectives). Examples of Acceptable Measurable Action Words:Explain, Demonstrate, Analyze, Formulate, Discuss, Compare, Differentiate, Describe, Name, Assess, Evaluate, Identify, Design, Define or List. 3) a signed Conflict of Interest form with a relevant qualification statement Thank you for your assistance in making your session credit worthy.
