Purpose: Launch social media campaign for National Public Health Week 2009. Campaign designed to build affinity among public health professionals. Description: Colorado academic and professional communities partnered to develop a social media campaign for NPHW 2009. Facebook.com was chosen as the primary platform supplemented by Flickr.com. A fan page was developed in March 2009 and soft-launched two weeks prior to NPHW 09. The page served as a platform for NPHW events including a Salmonella outbreak seminar, networking event, and National Start Walking Day rally. The page hosted daily public health e-cards distributed to more than 1000 professionals. The e-cards were designed to match the NPHW daily theme. Recipients were encouraged to forward the cards to their networks in order to expand NPHW promotion. Page fans used the site to post comments, video links and this is public health photos from across the state.

Outcome: Administrators track visits and demographics to evaluate the campaign. Total fans accumulated: 154. Total pictures linked to Flickr.com: 155. During NPHW the page received 664 views and since launch 4351 total views (data: June 26, 2009). The page will be maintained and updated to match the 2010 NPHW theme and expand virtual network.
