CALL FOR ABSTRACTS — 138th APHA Annual Meeting (November 6-10, 2010)

Family Violence Prevention Forum

 Submit Abstract
The Family Violence Prevention Forum of the American Public Health Association (APHA-FVPF) invites abstracts for individual paper presentations and poster sessions presentation at the 138th, 2010 Annual Meeting to be held in Denver, Colorado on November 6th – 10th, 2010.

Topics related to this year's theme, "Social Justice" and in all areas related to family violence prevention will receive high priority. Social Justice values are a part of the historical and current efforts to address family violence. In this call, special consideration will be given to proposals that attend to how family violence and or interventions to address it build on social justice values. Submissions should link current research and interventions to the theme of social justice and clearly indentify how they either promote or support health or public health resources for victims and perpetrators of family violence. The discussion of “Social Justice” can also integrate any of the following topics:
  • Addressing Family Violence Prevention with the Under-served
  • Best Practice Interventions to address Family Violence Prevention
  • Child, Adult, and/or Elder Abuse
  • Community Approaches to Family Violence Prevention
  • Evolving Family Violence Prevention Policy, Locally, Nationally, & Internationally
  • Expanding the Evidence Base: Status of Current Research
  • Improving Health Care through Integrative Approaches
  • Interventions focused on Perpetrators of Family Violence
  • Linking Public Health Practice to Family Violence
  • Public Health Education
  • Translating Research for Community Contexts
  • Translating Research for Community Contexts
This Call for Abstracts for the APHA-FVPF scientific sessions requests papers that present: Original empirical work (e.g. scientific studies, program evaluations, or organizational case studies), or noteworthy advances in methodology or analysis; Innovative integrative scholarship and scientific work; Programmatic reports of significant research infrastructure development; Programmatic reports of health professions curricular development or educational research; Substantive policy analyses (e.g. systems-wide assessments or policy case-studies); Informative reports on program or project management and development; Other similarly noteworthy, innovative, or informative reports and studies.

Joint sessions and sessions co-sponsored with other sections, special interest groups, caucuses, and forums are encouraged.

Abstracts will be selected through a rated review process according to significance, timeliness, and overall quality.

An author's paper may not have been presented or published prior to its presentation at the Annual Meeting. The abstract is limited to 250 words. The submission deadline is February 16th, 2010.

Continuing Education Credit
APHA values the ability to provide continuing education credit to physicians, nurses and health educators at its annual meeting. Please complete all required information when submitting an abstract so members can claim credit for attending your session. These credits are necessary for members to keep their licenses and credentials.

For a session to be eligible for Continuing Education Credit, each presenter must provide:

1) an abstract free of trade and/or commercial product names

2) at least one MEASURABLE objective (to understand or to learn are not measurable objectives).

Examples of Acceptable Measurable Action Words:
Explain, Demonstrate, Analyze, Formulate, Discuss, Compare, Differentiate, Describe, Name, Assess, Evaluate, Identify, Design, Define or List.

3) A signed Conflict of Interest form with a relevant qualification statement
