Lynn A. Bethel, RDH, MPH , Office of Oral Health, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Boston, MA
The American Public Health Association is the primary voice of public health advocacy, working in collaboration with its membership, and closely with key national and state decision-makers. While the Association's policies serve as an historical record of the diverse interests of its membership, they more importantly serve as the foundation for the work of the Association to improve and promote the public's health. All polices supported by the Association must be relevant, credible and reinforced by peer reviewed, evidence-based research. This presentation will provide members an overview of the policy review process including the criteria and perspectives used by the Joint Policy Committee, as well as helpful hints and resources to assist in the policy writing process.

Learning Areas:
Public health or related organizational policy, standards, or other guidelines
