Monday, November 8, 2010: 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Oral
This Session, sponsored by the APHA International Section, Elsevier and the international peer-reviewed journal, Public Health, with the Royal Society for Public Health, brings to APHA an international perspective on the Meeting theme of “Social Justice: a Public Health Imperative”. We shall be bringing internationally eminent speakers to address this topic at the annual Public Health APHA session. Although the UK might be viewed internationally as a pioneer in recognizing the links between social justice and health and in the provision of universal health care coverage, ensuring social justice in health care delivery remains a challenge for every health care system. The session will expose these contemporary challenges and explore potential solutions in an internationally relevant context.
Session Objectives: 1. Appreciate the relevance of social justice in achieving public health goals worldwide; 2. Have explored and discussed evidence from the UK, US and elsewhere concerning social justice in health and health care 3. Be stimulated to formulate plans for action towards social justice in health and health care in their own field of practice or study
