Men's Health Caucus

MEN’S HEALTH CAUCUS

The Men’s Health Caucus is seeking abstracts on a wide range of topics related to men’s health for presentation at the APHA annual meeting to be held in Washington, DC, on October 29-November 2, 2011. This year we will continue to expand the focus of presentations to include new topic areas. Topics of particular interest to the Men’s Health Caucus include, but are not limited to:
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Communicating to men
  • Employer outreach initiatives to men
  • Faith-based men’s health outreach
  • Fatherhood
  • Gender disparities
  • Male community health initiatives
  • Male reproductive health
  • Masculinity
  • Mental health and well-being (depression, anxiety, stress, suicide, etc.)
  • Men’s access to healthcare
  • Men’s health across the lifespan
  • Men’s health and healthcare reform implementation
  • Prostate and other men’s cancers
  • Public health and men’s health policy
  • Public health messaging to men
  • Role of women and families in men’s health
  • Sports and men’s health (concussions, injuries, accidents, etc.)
  • Veterans and active duty military health and well-being
  • Workplace safety
Abstracts must be submitted by Friday, February 11 and are limited to 250 words. Abstract review and presentation type
Abstracts are reviewed anonymously and rated according to the following criteria: (1) important issue or problem addressed, (2) innovative approach or perspective, (3) sound methods or arguments, (4) substantive findings or recommendations, and (5) compelling to a broad audience. Those whose abstracts are accepted for presentation will be asked either to give 15-minute oral presentations or to present their work in an hour-long poster session.

Presentation requirements
All presenters are encouraged to join the Men’s Health Caucus (www.menshealthcaucus.net).

Continuing Education Credit
APHA values the ability to provide continuing education credit to physicians, nurses, health educators and those certified in public health at its annual meeting. Please complete all required information when submitting an abstract so members can claim credit for attending your session. These credits are necessary for members to keep their licenses and credentials. For a session to be eligible for Continuing Education Credit, each presenter must provide:
1) an abstract free of trade and/or commercial product names.
2) At least one measurable objective (DO NOT USE understand or to learn as objectives. They are not measurable).
Examples of Acceptable Measurable Action Words: Explain, Demonstrate, Analyze, Formulate, Discuss, Compare, Differentiate, Describe, Name, Assess, Evaluate, Identify, Design, Define, or List.
3) A signed Conflict of Interest (Disclosure) form with a relevant Qualification Statement. See an example of an acceptable Qualification Statement on the online Disclosure form.
