During this session, the Competencies to Practice Toolkit, a repository of tools designed to assist public health professionals with using the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals will be presented. The Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals are a set of skills desirable for the broad practice of public health that have been used by hundreds of public health agencies and academic institutions in their workforce development efforts since their original adoption in 2001. In 2010, the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice adopted Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals at three levels: Tier 1 (entry level), Tier 2 (supervisors/managers), and Tier 3 (CEOs/senior leaders of public health organizations). During this session, use of tools contained in the Competencies to Practice Toolkit will be demonstrated. Some of the tools available in the toolkit include: self assessments, peer review forms, and examples that demonstrate attainment of competence. Participants will be asked to provide feedback regarding some of the tools. In addition, examples illustrating the use of the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals in at least one health department or academic institution will be presented.
