Title: External Scholar Reaction to Global Health Recommendations of the NIH-ORWH Strategic Plan for Women's Health Research Purpose: To pull from two (#4.6 and #5.5) of six goals in the ORWH strategic plan to advance research on women's health from the vantage point of a regional/global women's health perspective. Data/Info: Data is available from northeastern United States (US) cities on HIV/AIDS and its disproportionate impact on immigrant women of color from Latin America and the Caribbean. The United Nations (UN) “Millennium Development Goals” supports improved data collection in developing nations, emphasizes country scale up of health services accessibility for women of color and promotes development of policies to: reduce discrimination/ improve social inclusion for women of color. Methods: Statistically analyze/compare regional data on immigrant women of color in US versus global health data on similar populations available through the UN, WHO, PAHO, World Bank, Inter American Development Bank, USAID and other international entities. Major Results: Evidence that goals from the ORWH Strategic Plan document are significant for global public health is found in a recent study (Bayne Smith, 2010 Ford Foundation) which demonstrated that the creation of strategic alliances and partnerships (4.6) helped to maximize transnational women's health research and to develop/implement new social networking techniques (5.5) to improve women's health/wellness research. Recommendations/Policy Implications: 1. Support is needed to conduct focused research on health disparities among immigrant women of color in the US 2. Research conducted with populations in developing countries should include support for implementation sustainability.
