5095.0 Alcohol Policy: Products, Price and Placement: Impact on the Community

This session cover four topics pertaining to alcohol policies in the U.S.  First, we will discuss the relative effectiveness and strength of evidence of a set of 47 alcohol policies.  Next, products and marketing strategies for “supersized” alcopops (i.e., 24oz. cans of fruity, sweet, alcoholic beverages) will be presented along with a discussion of policy recommendations for states and the alcohol industry. Third, the impact of a hypothetical alcohol tax increase using annual expenditures will be presented. Finally, we will outline key steps in developing and implementing a citywide campaign to enact a zoning ordinance designed to control local alcohol retail density
Session Objectives: Compare relative effectiveness and strength of evidence among a comprehensive set of alcohol policies in the US. Describe various policy recommendations to prevent the sale of supersized alcopops, including model legislation. Demonstrate the impact of a hypothetical alcohol tax increase using annual expenditures. Identify and describe the key steps in developing and implementing a citywide campaign to enact a zoning ordinance designed to control local alcohol retail density.
