Successful health communications strategies for a mainstream audience differs greatly from communications strategies in historically under-invested communities. This presentation will explore the following questions: What are the main differences in communications strategies for the mainstream and individuals/families living in the latter? What context does one need to about the lives and circumstances of individuals/families living in historically under-invested communities to develop communications tactics (social media, TV, radio) that actually reach this audience? How does one determine the topics most relevant to these communities (food justice, health equity, etc), and translate them in a way that makes their relevance clear?
