Healthy People 2020 is the fourth iteration of this national initiative. With the release of these national objectives in December 2010, work began to develop and launch the 12 Leading Health Indicators for the nation. In October 2011, the Assistant Secretary of Health launched the leading health indicators, which for the first time, included an oral health indicator. This session will focus on the background related to the development of these indicators, how states may implement and use of HP 2020, and oral health as a leading health indicator.
Session Objectives: Attendees will be able to: • Explain the process used to develop HP 2020 and the role of the Leading Health Indicators. • Identify what states are doing to implement the HP 2020 framework and the oral health objectives. • Name objectives that include oral health in other topic areas, including the Tobacco Use topic area.
