CBPR charrettes: Harnessing community expertise to advance equity in community-academic research partnerships: A community perspective

Building effective and equitable research partnerships presents challenges, warranting heightened efforts to enhance community and academic partners' capacity. The last decade has seen growing support for CBO and community leaders who have relevant skills, knowledge and training to be equitable partners in community engagement. This presentation will highlight a model for transforming the way community partners are engaged and compensated to provide training and consultation to new and on-going CBPR partnerships. This discussion will describe the effectiveness of the CBPR Charrette model from a community perspective and will shed light on the importance of leveraging and valuing community expertise to advance community-academic research partnerships.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I serve as Community Expert Consultant with the CTSA Supplement: Community Leadership and Reciprocal Development to Advance Community Engaged Research at Two CTSA Institutions and its subsequent project, Community Engagement Consulting Models: Taking Them to Scale. I provide technical assistance and guidance to community-academic partnerships through the CBPR Charrette consulting process.I also serve on the project’s Evaluation Committee, where we developed a new tool for assessing partnership development and growth.
