The Affordable Care Act is allowing CDC to expand cross-cutting workforce programs including experiential fellowships and continuous training and development for the current workforce. CDC's fellowship programs recruit and train professionals in the field of public health, assigning trainees annually to CDC headquarters or to state and local health departments, where they supplement workforce gaps and provide frontline service in epidemiology, informatics, laboratory sciences, and public health problems and emergencies, and facilitating integration of public health with the health care system for improved community health.
