Instruments of emotional labor and the union perspective

This presentation discusses how labor unions address the issue of Emotional Labor and its impact on occupational health policy. Issues related to worker rights & abuses in the context of service-type employment will be emphasized. Also, current and future concerns regarding worker rights & Emotional Labor will be explored.

Learning Objectives: At the end of the session the participants will be able to: (1) Identify the range of jobs and occupations requiring Emotional Labor. (2) List the primary concerns of unionized workers confronting Emotional Labor as a job requirement. (3) Describe the response of labor unions to issues related to Emotional Labor. (4) Describe the importance of Emotional Labor in terms of occupational health and occupational health standards. (5) Recognize the importance of understanding the concept of Emotional Labor for public health purposes.
