Addressing the unseen population: A call to meet the unmet HIV needs of MTF transgenders

This presentation explores the impact of the exclusion of transgenders from HIV research on the transgender population as well as the greater society. The author will highlight some of the causes and barriers within institutional and traditional funding sources that exclude transgender community-based organizations or LBGT health agencies from qualifying for research funding.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1) Recognize the need for increased HIV research and services for MTF transgenders, 2) Identify specific domains in which participants expand or enhance HIV research and services to meet unique needs of MTF transgenders, 3) Strategize short-term and long-term goals for incorporating MTF transgender issues into existing research or agency objectives.
