Abstract #23242

Identifying gaps in HIV prevention program evaluation technology transfer materials

David Davis, PhD and Tracey Barrington, MS. Program Evaluation Research Branch, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, 1600 Clifton Road NE, Mail Stop E-59, Atlanta, GA 30333, 404-639-0938, dad5@cdc.gov

To assist community-based organizations and health departments implementing HIV prevention programs in conducting program evaluation, a federal agency developed a database of HIV prevention program technology transfer materials relevant to program evaluation (e.g., books, manuals, journal articles, web sites, newsletters, instruments, etc.) These materials were categorized by steps in the evaluation process addressed, barriers to evaluation addressed, and depth of evaluation expertise needed to understand and use the materials. Review of this database has revealed gaps in available materials for certain evaluation steps or barriers for some levels of expertise (e.g., few materials concerning how to make evaluation findings useful were found). This presentation will describe and demonstrate the database and how it can be accessed, specify the major gaps in materials listed, and suggest means by which these gaps might be filled.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to access a database of HIV prevention program evaluation technology transfer materials, search the database for and identify materials relevant to their needs and skill level, describe the gaps in materials available, and discuss possible steps to fill these gaps.
