The CDC/Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) Institute for HIV Prevention Leadership, a national model for capacity-building in CBOs, focuses on the interweaving of public health prevention and strategic management skills to enhance both prevention program effectiveness and organizational viability. Thirty-five scholars who completed the pilot offering of the Institute for HIV Prevention Leadership were asked to rate their levels of capability and confidence in applying topics covered during the Institute six months following their participation. Scholars' capability and confidence were measured in the following topics areas: strategic management, public health prevention principles, organizational learning, and the use of technology. Data will be presented on the scholars' perceived capability and confidence, the usefulness and frequency of use of Institute materials, and the scholars' integration of knowledge and skills gained at the Institute in their strategic management and HIV prevention programming within their CBOs and their communities. Implications of these findings for capacity enhancement in other CBOs and their collaborators in HIV prevention efforts will be discussed.

Learning Objectives: At the end of the session, participants will be able to: (1) identify the perceived impact of the Institute on scholars' capacity in HIV prevention and strategic management, and (2) identify the potential impact this increased capacity has on the at-risk populations served by their CBOs.
