This session will look at how Native Hawaiians are designing their own health care system with the help of federal, state, and private resources. This system looks at how to maximize existing resources in the public and private sector using an insurance mechanism with existing health service providers. The goal of this effort is to have a national universal health care system in place for Native Hawaiians.

The panal is chaired by Ms. Na`u Kamali`i, Papa Ola Lokahi's Health Services Officer. She brings extensive knowledge on health plans and health service delivery systems. Joining her on the panel are representatives from partners in the development of this comprehensive system; David Peters from the Native Hawaiian Health Care Systems, Pua Aiu from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Kawahine Kamakea-Ohelo from the Primary Care Association, Col. Rosemary Nelson of the US Department of Defense, and David Burge of the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

This session offers options to health service delivery for other native peoples and communities to consider.
