Violence Against Asian & Pacific Islander Women

National work to end violence against Asian & Pacific Islander women continues to be informed and grounded by work to end violence against API women on the local level. This workshop will present the progress of the national Asian & Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence (APIIDV--www.apiahf.org/DV.html) APIIDV is involved in coalition building on the national level which includes 1)forming national networks of API activists, researchers, policy and health advocates, and practitioners, 2)providing technical assistance and information resources, 3)developing national policy and research agendas, 4) training on cultural competency, 5) promoting best practices and 6)developing ethical guidelines for advocate/researcher collaborations. This roundtable discussion will focus on the efforts of the APIIDV's research and policy working groups and will provide participants the opportunity to inform and become involved in the work of the APIIDV. Learning Objectives: 1 Critically examine the past and current work to end violence against Asian and Pacific Islander American women on national, state and local levels. 2. Identify promising practices that promote the safety of Asian Pacific Islander American women. 3. Identify ethical and methodological issues in conducing research on violence against Asian and Pacific Islander American women and apply this understanding to ongoing and/or new research projects.
