Children are at increased risk of health effects from certain chemical and biological contaminants of water. In addition, their behaviors at differerent stages of development may place them at increased risk of exposure to contaminated drinking water. Although parents may be concerned about risks to their children from drinking water, they are not always able to obtain reliable information to assist them in making choices. This presentation will describe ongoing work to understand parental risk perceptions and practices pertaining to drinking water. The specific contaminants that pose increased risk to children will be highlighted. Sources of information for parents of small children regarding drinking water risks will be presented.
