Over the past two years, we have developed a sports medicine training program at the high school level. Navajo students learn about athletic traiing (essentially a college levl course), anatomy, physiology, physical exams, and basic rehabilitation principles. During and after the course, student traininers provide coverage to athletic teams and events throught the four corners area. Participation in the course enhances students opportunities for scholarships, and develops their interest in health careers. Most students have rated the experience highly, and the schools are pleased with the performance of the student trainers. Similar programs can be set up in other areas, where there is a need and interest.

Learning Objectives: After the session, participants will be able to develop their own local student athletic training program for high school students
