Adenike Bitto, MD, DrPH, MPH, CHES, ESU, P.O. Box 155, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301, (570)422-3375, adenike.2doc@usa.net

Despite recent threats posed by emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, vast improvements in health status occurred during the last century. In America, national vaccination coverage levels of 90% were attained among children, but there is substantial variation in coverage rates among states and urban areas. The greatest burden of vaccine-preventable diseases occurs among adults. However, fragmentation and lack of collaboration among agencies working in immunization, probably, hamper the development of a comprehensive and integrated system to monitor levels of immunization coverage. This presentation is a proposal for developing a comprehensive compendium and user-friendly Immunization Guide to sources, uses and needs for immunization data at the state, territorial and national levels. Secondly, participants will discuss and prioritize channels available for publishing and disseminating results from the proposed project. The project should benefit from federal scientific and technical expertise, and from the proposed Advisory Board. There are also significant resources available within the local institution, and existing extra mural collaboration with community agencies. A well-conceptualized time schedule is proposed for development of instruments, obtaining information from a wide range of agencies working in immunization, and determining their target population and services provided. Data security, confidentiality and privacy protection guidelines will be followed. EpiInfo, SPSS and PRISM will be used for data analysis. Formative and outcome evaluation will be performed. The Immunization Guide should facilitate collaboration, effective partnerships and networking among agencies involved with immunization at the federal, state and local government levels, non-governmental organizations, vaccine manufacturers and distributors, academic institutions and communities.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: (i) Identify factors that hamper the development of a comprehensive and integrated system to monitor levels of immunization coverage; (ii) Develop a comprehensive compendium and user-friendly guide to sources, uses and need for immunization data at the state, territorial and national levels; (iii) List and assess the advantages of creating this comprehensive immunization guide including fostering collaboration, effective partnerships, and networking among agencies involved with immunization; (iv) Discuss and prioritize channels available for publishing and disseminating the information available in the comprehensive compendium and user-friendly immunization data guide; (v) Share global experience with developing a comprehensive and integrated system of monitoring immunization levels
