The purpose of the National Native American Cancer Survivors' Support Network is to improve the survival from cancer and the quality of life after being diagnosed with cancer for both the patients and the loved ones of cancer patients. People who become involved with the "Network" receive a long-distance calling card to allow them telephone support, a newsletter, plus Native-specific print and video resources. During 2000, the Network was expanded to include both genders and all cancer sites.

This presentation will present preliminary findings related to the participants in the Network, highlights from the first national "Native American Cancer Survivors/Thrivers Conference" (September 2001), on-site training and support for the "Survivor Advocates", and unique features of the Network. Selected case studies of how the Network staff influenced the patient's ability to access improved health services will also be explained.
