Social Workers regardless of practice location (developed or developing countries) will require tools to enable them to most effectively reach oppressed and marginalized groups, including people with disabilities. Jurkowski and Welch (2000) identified curriculum needs for Social Work education in Public Health Social Work specifically related to disability content in North America. Jurkowski and Debeer (2001) investigated Schools of Social Work in developing contexts to identify current strategies in use. This paper outlines a variety of strategies which can be used to supplement aspects of the Social Work curricula, and deal with public health practice related goals. The tools which include a workbook and guide of internet resources, references, case studies and secondary data sets are compiled into a user friendly resource guide. Curriculum suggestions and strategies for infusion into social work curricula both in developed and developing contexts are also outlined in this resource guide and presentation.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will: 1. Identify at least three gaps in educational resources within public health social work curricula. 2. Identify at least five available resources which can be used to supplement/infuse disability content for students in public health social work practice. 3. Identify how resources can be utilized and shared locally and globally.
