In today's fast-paced work environment that requires computer savvy and an ability to generate statistics for the purposes of program planning and evaluation, data, analytic, and technology skills are more essential than ever for MCH and allied health professionals.

Data Skills Online was developed with the busy public health professional in mind, to provide on demand, on the job training in skills for: working with population-based data; developing and reporting measures for the Title V Block Grant application; monitoring and evaluating progress on specific program activities; and developing strategies to meet the needs of the MCH population.

Analytic tools include: using PRAMS data to complement reporting efforts, "Geographic Information Systems," and "Designing Questionnaires" and "Primary Data Collection Instruments" for training in primary data collection. Technology tools include: "Creating Spreadsheets" (data comparisons and chart generation); "Browser Basics" (Internet research and accessing existing data sources); and "Web Design."

The self-instructional, web-based project was marketed at the national level, and web site user demographic and evaluation information will be presented. Data presented will include: demographic and geographic characteristics of users; reasons for accessing the tools; and short-term application of skills acquired on the Data Skills Online site to date.
