>This presentation will report on the technical quality of mental health care for Medicaid beneficiaries in Massachusetts with schizophrenia under and outside of managed care. Data collected from administrative and pharmacy claims, medical records, and other sources will be applied to explicit criteria for quality of care derived from the Schizophrenia PORT study. Domains of measurement include access (to intensive levels of care and atypical antipsychotic medications), assessment (of psychiatric, substance related and medical status), treatment (psychosocial and somatic interentions), continuity and coordination of care. Analyses will compare >technical quality between managed and non-managed cohorts and will examine associations between processes of care and patient outcomes. >

Learning Objectives: The participants will be able to list the elements of technically appropriate care for schizophrenia and discuss the relation between appropriate care and patient outcomes.
