This presentation will address the role of the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board in preventing chemical spills and emergencies. It will focus principally on the public’s interest in three areas: 1) the value of independent, root cause investigations of chemical accidents; 2) the need for complete and well-organized information on the occurrence of chemical spills and emergencies; and 3) the development of opportunities for inherent safety changes as the option of first resort to protect public health, worker safety, and the environment. See www.csb.gov

Learning Objectives: To understand (1) the value of independent root cause investigations of chemical accidents; 2) the need for complete and well-organized information on the occurrence of chemical spills and emergencies; and 3) the development of opportunities for inherent safety changes.
