New NCATE Health Education Standards: An update

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education has developed new health education standards which professional preparation programs will have to meet, if they are to be recognized as NCATE Approved Programs. The new standards will be presented and discussed. Implications to the current AAHE/NCATE Folio Review process will be addressed. In addition, in 2000, NCATE passed a revision regarding the preparation of all elementary teachers in the subject of health education. Impact and opportunities for the field of health education and Colleges of Education will be presented.

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to describe the new NCATE standards for health education. Participants will be able to include the new NCATE standards in their professional preparation programs.
