Abstinence-only sexuality education programs in Texas: An evaluation

In Texas, 32 programs have been funded to provide abstinence education, 8 of which were selected for initial implementation evaluation. Data regarding each program’s size, target population, funding, type of intervention, activities, and program goals will be presented. A brief discussion of a structured program decomposition will also be presented. Lessons learned by evaluators at Texas A&M University will be shared. Theoretical issues associated with abstinence behavior and abstinence terminology will be raised.

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to describe the status of evaluation of abstinence-only human sexuality programs in Texas.
