Abstract #31764

US smokers' attitudes and beliefs about light and ultralight brands of cigarettes

Saul Shiffman, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15213, 412 687-5677, shiffman@pinneyassociates.com

This paper describes a telephone (RDD) survey of 2,205 US smokers' attitudes and beliefs about Light and UltraLight brands of cigarettes. The findings show that many smokers still have misconceptions about the health benefits of these cigarettes, and suggest that some of the misconceptions are due to perceptions that these cigarettes feel less harsh.
