Oral hygiene for infants & toddlers; preventing early childhood caries (ECC)

The keys to prevention of early childhood caries include effective oral hygiene, fluoride dentifrice use, early detection of signs of demineralization, home care instruction and early referral to the dentist. These preventive techniques will be described.

Learning Objectives: Participants will understand: 1. The how, when, where and why of effective infant and toddler oral hygiene 2. That frequent and long exposure of baby’s teeth to fermentable carbohydrates may cause ECC.
