Abstract #32797

Nursing Affiliate's Perspectives and Recommendations on PHN Section Strategic Plan

Betty Smith Williams, DrPH, RN, FAAN, President, National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations, , katrusse@iupui.edu

As part of the planning process in the development of the PHN Section’s strategic plan to engage in the elimination of racial, ethnic, gender, and geographic health disparities, the National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations has been invited to respond to the five goals of the strategic plan. These goals include promoting PHN work force diversity, educating nurses about strategies for eliminating health disparities, increasing access to quality health care, changing social and contextual conditions that adversely influence health, and promoting section leadership in addressing health disparities. The Coalition President will share perspectives from the leadership of the coalition’s affiliate nursing associations on the strategic plan and offer recommendations that challenge PHN Section members to consider as they move the plan forward.

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to: 1. Generate specific objectives and strategies in eliminating health disparities for the PHN Section’s Strategic Plan for Eliminating Racial, Ethnic, Gender, and Geographic Health Disparities. 2. Incorporate recommendations from the National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations in the refinement of the strategic plan. 3. Identify potential organizational collaborative opportunities in addressing common goals that involve the health disparities dilemma.
