Influencing Public Policy on School Nutrition Programs

Issues related to competitive foods, pouring rights contracts and other contemporary school food service practices will be addressed. The main goal of addressing such issues is to advance policy and environmental changes to promote healthy eating and physical activity options in the school and surrounding community. Research on the impact of controversial practices will be presented

Learning Objectives: Analyze several strategies for influencing public policy on school nutrition programs: -Understand the complexities of each issue related to healthy eating in public schools. -Learn the effectiveness of detailed research and advocating for specific issues to achieving desired policy outcomes. -Learn the important relationship between policy change and behavior change.
