Oral Session

Health Literacy and its Role in Achieving Healthy People 2010

This session will explore the role of health literacy in achieving natioinal health prmotion and disease prevention goals and objectives. Health literacy affects people's ability to take action to support their health, from primary risk reduction to compliance with medication protocols. Literacy barriers applicable to oral health will be used as an example.

Learning Objectives: To describe the role of health literacy in limiting progress towards managing and preventing disease. To list ways improvements in health literacy can contribute to achieving Healthy People 2010 Objectives.
