From Advocacy to Implementation and Evaluation: South Carolina Statewide Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative

Session overview: In July 1998 the South Carolina General Assembly appropriated $10.5 million dollars over a 3-year period, to fund local adolescent pregnancy prevention initiatives in each of the 46 S.C. counties. Presentations in the session will describe the advocacy which led to legislative approval, the legislative mandates, implementation realities, creation of evaluation schema and interim 2-year results.

Learning Objectives: Learning Objectives: By the end of the session attendees will be able to 1) describe advocacy activities that were effective in funding health promotion initiatives for teen pregnancy prevention, 2) understand necessity of multi-method evaluations in evaluating teen pregnancy prevention initiatives, 3) describe lessons learned during first two years of evaluation and their implication for public health practice.
