Asian Pacific Islander Caucus of APHA

Submit Abstract

The Asian Pacific Islander (API) Caucus of the American Public Health Association invites abstracts for papers that address the theme of the 2002 Annual Meeting, "Putting the Public Back Into Public Health." The API Caucus is interested in research and data on the physical, social, and environmental aspects of Asian American and Pacific Islander health. This includes work that assists in the identification of public health priorities, policy pertaining to API health, development of effective models of community organization and intervention, and relevant assessment and evaluation approaches for diverse Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Abstracts are especially invited that relate to this year’s theme. Members with an interest in public policy, treatment, prevention, health service research, or practice issues are encouraged to submit abstracts.

We are continued to be interested in abstracts that address the following:
  • Community based program for immigrant and undocumented API population
  • Domestic violence in the API communities
  • Hate crimes prevention
  • Mental health issues
  • Policy papers pertaining to API health
  • Preventive services across life-span
  • Psychosocial factors impacting health, including racial discrimination, culture, politics, social class, and inequality
  • Underserved API communities
  • Updates on health disparities
Submissions are encouraged for poster, roundtable, and oral session formats. Please refer to APHA general guidelines for further information on these formats and indicate the desired format on the abstract page. Abstracts will be submitted to peer-review, and ranked for quality, topic applicability, and relation to overall caucus priorities. Authors should be aware that there are limited slots available for oral presentations. Please give the Program Committee as many presentation options as possible to increase your acceptability. Thank you.

Please note that you do not have to be a member of APHA or an API Caucus member to submit an abstract. However, if your abstract is accepted for presentation you must register for the meeting and become a member of APHA in order to present at the meeting.
