The Community Health Worker (CHW) SPIG welcomes abstracts that address issues important to CHWs. Abstracts submitted by Community Health Workers, (also known as lay health advisors, promotoras de salud and community health advisors) and that are participatory in nature are especially encouraged. The following themes related to CHWs are of particular interest:
- Celebrating the work of CHWs and ensuring its continuation: strategies for validation, motivation, and stress and burnout prevention
- CHWs addressing health disparities in diabetes, cardiovascular disease, maternal & child health and in other areas
- CHWs as activists: addressing the needs of the community
- Community networking – a joint program with other sections, caucuses, or SPIGs
- Evaluation and sustainability: strategies, advocacy, and innovations
- Future directions for CHWs: credentialing and career directions
- New and emerging CHW networks
- Other issues of importance to CHWs
- Reaching youth through community health work
- Training and continuing education: presentation of various curricula
