In keeping with the 2002 conference theme (Putting the Public Back in Public Health) subjects of presentations should relate to organized labor's involvement, or potential involvement, in activities and programs related to promoting economic justice and the health and welfare of the community. Topical areas may include: (a) living wage campaigns, pay equity and retirement security; (b) alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in the workplace; (c) union organizing campaigns; (d) efforts at expansion of unemployment, family and medical leave benefits; (e) worker training programs and tuition payments for employed and unemployed workers: a GI Bill for the working class; (f) collective bargaining and health insurance coverage for workers in an era of managed care; (g) privatization of public health services and functions; (h) the role of organized labor in an era of expanding economic globalization; and (i) the status of public health infrastructure, including the public health workforce, post-September 11, 2001.
