This section invites papers, posters and sessions that address current and relevant health education themes, along with this year’s APHA theme, “Putting the Public Back Into Public Health.” Relevant health education themes suitable for submission include:
- Community involvement in health education (participatory research, lay health advisor programs, partnerships, consumer health issues, etc.)
- Cultural Competency
- Environmental health education, change and policy
- Ethical Issues
- Global Health Education and Health Promotion Issues
- Health Communication (use of media channel, tailored messaging, alternative communication strategies, health promotion campaigns, etc.)
- Health Education/Health Promotion Programming (planning, delivering, evaluating and intervention research)
- Health Risk Communication
- Issues related to Health Education Policy
- Public Health and the Internet
- Special Focus Populations (minorities and emerging majorities, migrant and immigrant health issues, Indian/Alaskan Native/Native Hawaiian issues, Aging issues, etc.)
- Topical issues: e.g. HIV/AIDS, violence, nutrition, injury prevention, and physical activity
- Worksite Health Promotion
Individual abstract submissions must include at least two learning objectives. Session abstract submissions must also provide at least two learning objectives for each individual abstract submission, and, in addition, the overall session proposal submission must have at least two, but no more than three, learning objectives. Learning objectives are needed as a standing APHA requirement and consideration for CHES contact hours. Incomplete abstracts cannot be reviewed.
