Through a collaboration between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Abt Associates, Inc., an evaluation guide for program evaluation and evaluation research is being developed. The purpose of the guide is to provide a document to stakeholders and interested parties that will assist in developing and implementing evaluation efforts for violence against women programs. The goal of the guide is to assist violence against women programs to select useful, feasible, ethical, and accurate evaluation strategies. The development of the guide is critical to CDC’s examination of the role of community mobilization around violence against women issues. The final guide will be published and released in Fall/Winter 2003. This presentation will review the content areas of the sections of the guide based on an extensive literature review of the field of violence against women. Content areas to be discussed include: a) a list of operationally defined standard and essential elements of a violence against women program and the identification and review of existing methods and mechanisms to measure the elements; b) identification of evaluation designs that have utility for violence against women programs; c) identification of gaps in data collection measures; d) a description of analysis methods; e) a description of reporting mechanisms; and f) a description of methods for utilization of evaluation findings.
