Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine feasibility, accessibility and potential efficacy of newly developed website which disseminates information about effective research and school based, drug abuse prevention programs. Abstract Text: While significant progress has been made in developing effective research-based approaches to drug abuse prevention, little progress has been made in promoting the dissemination, adoption, and institutionalization of prevention approaches derived from that research. The PreventionNet website is an informative and user-friendly mechanism which includes information on the 10 NIDA Redbook research-based prevention programs, current updates on all prevention research and additional resources. The website aims to bridge the gap between research and practice. Methodology: This study measured the degree to which Internet users found the PreventionNet website to be accessible and informative. Results: Web-based data results concern the extent to which Internet users found the dissemination materials as helpful in creating awareness of research-based prevention programs. Of those individuals who accessed the PreventionNet website, 50% accessed the website at least once a month, 79% responded that the website increased their awareness of research-based prevention approaches and 100% of the respondents reported that they were interested in the PreventionNet site for professional reasons. Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, participants will be able to (1) identify means of effectively disseminating drug prevention program materials and (2) assess the efficacy of the dissemination modality.
