Using the "Clinical Trials Education for Colorado Providers" curriculum as a foundation, a Native American module was developed. The complete module includes twelve objectives. Selected objectives within the module have been pretested within intertribal communities and subsequently refined. The module is designed to be implemented within Native American conferences or meetings. The CTECP curriculum provided a solid base from which the culturally relevant community-based modules could evolve. The modules have been pretested with diverse tribal communities of which most participants were either cancer survivors or first degree relatives of cancer survivors. The modules will be available from the NACR web page late spring 2002. Natives said they understood the need and purpose for clinical trials and 25% had sought additional information about their participation in clinical trials following the pretesting of selected module objectives.
