Consumer Choice and Control in Japan and Australia

Building consumer choice and control into systems of care is slowly emerging as a major health and long term care policy response to the increasing prevalence of chronic illness in the aged in Japan and Australia.

Attention will be paid to the impact of an "empowered" consumer could have on resource allocation. The issue of cognitive impairment will be considered in the implementation of programs to enhance consumer choice and direction.
