Local health departments are being required to set standards and guidelines for workers including health educators. These standards and guidelines are utilized in the accreditation of local health departments. This presentation highlights the development, adoption, and implementation of health education practice standards and guidelines for a local health department in preparation for accreditation. The guidelines and standards are organized according to the core functions of public health outlined by the Institute of Medicine Report, 1988.
