Mobile dental clinics: The inside and moving stories

Dyan Campbell, MPH, PRASAD Children's Dental Health Program, National Director PRASAD Children's Dental Health Program, 465 Brickman Road, Hurleyville, NY 12747, 845-434-0376, dyanc@prasad.org

PRASAD Children’s Dental Program is a non-profit organization that provides health education, prevention and restorative care to low income children in Sullivan County NY and San Jose California. Although one area is rural northeast NY and one is urban Bay Area CA, both are areas of great economic need. When dental care for poor children was available it required the parents to take off from work and then find some means of getting the child to the dentist, often incurring additional expenses of child care for those that were left at home. PRASAD decided to eliminate those barriers with state of the art dental clinics that go to schools and care for low income children. Presentation will talk about staff considerations including job descriptions and personalities; capacity; alternate sites for clinic delivery; expenses involved with clinic maintenance and housing; partnering with community outreach workers for real success.
