Dennis Kodner, PhD, Monroe County Long Term Care Program, Inc., 49 Far View Avenue, Atlantic Highlands, NJ 07716-2008, 732-708-1426, dkodner@aol.com

Chronic Illness has emerged as a major public health issue in Europe. Consumer choice is becoming a key long term care policy response to the increasing prevalence of chronic illness in the aged and adult disabled population in the Netherlands, Germany and Austria.

The issue of cognitive impairment will be discussed in the context of informed consent and control over resources. The issue of compensating family care will be addressed as well.
