The Center for Sustainable Health Outreach (CSHO) supports the role of community health workers (CHWs) in the areas of education and training, evaluation, sustainability and policy development. A major part of sustainability and policy development is affected by legislative initiatives. Over the last several years some legislation mentioning CHWs has been proposed at the state and federal level. In particular, several federal initiatives that never cleared subcommittees and state legislation, including Texas, Maryland, Massachusetts. CSHO has gathered and analyzed the legislation to look at definitions of CHWs, funding sources, and other issues that affect CHWs. The presentation will include an overview of the proposed legislation, whether it was passed, and its outcome to date.
