Protecting the food supply throughout the U.S. has long been an interest of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In cooperation with the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) and National Center for Infectious Disease (NCID), three national organizations, the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) , the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), conducted surveys with their constituencies, to determine the capacities of the public health laboratories, epidemiologists, and health departments to monitor the safety of the nation's food supply. This session allows a cooperative presentation and discussion of the findings from the three surveys.
